About the Radio Show
On April 12, 1995, the program aired for the first time as the "Lehigh Valley Sportsman Show" in Allentown, PA. Broadcast on a Wednesday night from 9-10 PM, many believed the program would not survive. Advertising support was slow to develop, but after a steady flow of quality guests and great topics, people began to listen. Within three months, all advertising time was sold-out with many of the advertisers becoming faithful listeners. The program brought the ever-popular subjects of hunting and fishing to a new level of legitimacy. After one year of broadcasting, 55 different advertisers purchased 111 separate contracts. The guest list reflected whos who in the industry.
After 12 months the program moved to Pottstown, PA with WPAZ-1370-AM becoming the flagship station. The name changed to the "Sportsmans Connection" on the Outdoor Talk Network to reflect the new statewide target of the program. Soon, the list of affiliated stations began to grow.
In January of 2003, Jim Slinsky began the process of bringing the program to New York State. NY talk radio stations have warmly received the program and the affiliated station list continues to expand.
October of 2003, Jim went national with his radio show. Matrix Media broadcasted the show nationwide on the EBN Radio Network until January of 2006.
The show name was changed to the Outdoor Talk Network or OTN.
The Salem Radio Network took over the satellite feed across the nation in January of 2006.
Everyone, from the novice to the expert enjoys the show. National advertisers have acknowledged the need for the outdoor venue to enter the talk radio medium. Local advertisers have consistently and loyalty advertised with the program to help insure its continued presence.
Jim Slinsky is the founder of the Show. He hosts and produces it each week.
